Today marks 5 weeks since surgery.  Time has flown by.  This little gal is a rockstar and has done remarkably well.

We had an appointment at Primary's scheduled for yesterday but Dr. Muntz called on Friday and requested that I send him some pictures instead.  He looked at it and said everything is healing nicely and he doesn't have any concerns so we are ready to move forward.  He didn't want us to waste a trip down just for a quick examination.  A good man he is.

One week from today she will go in for surgery #2!  This one will be outpatient, which she is not excited about.  She was really hoping to be pampered in the hospital & to take a trip to the playroom again.

Dr. Muntz has decided to switch the 2nd & 3rd stages of surgery so this time they will create a sulcus or space behind the ear.  This will make the ear pull out from the side of the head.  The cartilage graft is lifted from the side of the head using an incision behind the ear.  A skin graft from the panty line will be used to make the back part of the sulcus.  To keep this in place, a bolster is placed behind the ear and will need to be removed a week after surgery.

Before we started this process, I worried more about surgery #2 than I did the first.  Surgery #1 was definitely one of the most involved and intense but she didn't quite know what to expect.  I worried that when it came time for #2 she would fight it because now she knows that surgery sucks.   However, Primary Children's made an absolutely miserable experience as positive as they possibly could and she isn't fighting us at all.

I've worried about her missing too much school this year, and as luck would have it she missed a few days before her first surgery because she was sick and now she is home today (& probably tomorrow) with a fever.  So much for missing as little school as possible.
