Thursday, January 7, 2016

We survived the night.  She really hates that they wake her up and "ruin" her dreams.  She fought the medicine again.  She cried until she was gasping for air which hurt her ribs which led to more tears.  Nights are rough.  We did get a little more sleep than yesterday though so we were happy.

We have been absolutely amazed at the outpouring of love & support we have received.  When I started this blog I thought it would be a good way to keep people updated but I never in a million years expected that we'd have 3,495 views, as we sit currently.  We have received text messages, phone calls, Facebook messages, Instagram comments, even the cutest video message ever, visits & gifts galore.  Thank you doesn't even begin to cover it.  We are so grateful for each and every one of you for helping us along the way!  She told me today that she'd like to live here because she "kind of feels like a queen"!

She was having a rough morning when we got a surprise delivery from one of Jared's co-workers, Alan, and his wife Wendy.  She quickly named her Mrs. Purple {one of our nurses has a stethoscope named Mr. Purple} and has clung on to her all day long.  This is the biggest smile we've seen all week.

No one under the age of 12 is allowed in this part of the hospital because it's RSV season.  Dr. Muntz gave us a wink and told us to go for a walk.  We met some very special visitors in the waiting room.  Unfortunately she was having some tummy issues and wasn't feeling so hot but was happy to see everyone.

A candy bar bouquet from the Larsen girls and a giant Olaf balloon from the Yeates bunch.  We spent some time together and loved every second.

Kambri's very best friend is her cousin Ellie.  They are 7 weeks apart in age and have been joint at the hip since birth.  Ellie insisted that her hair match Kambri's today and brought 3 of her Palace Pets for her.  What a sweet girl.

Kambri is a major daddy's girl (even more so this week) so I was happy when Tate couldn't stop hugging me.  It will be good to be together as a family again soon.

Kaden was totally grossed out by her ear.  I believe his exact words were, "(gags) ooh, it looks like it's welded on".

Our little Batman was so excited to see the Super Heroes.

Once we got her tummy issues & pain under control she perked right up and has been a rockstar all afternoon.  They don't allow you to get bored at Primary Children's Hospital.  She has done lots of projects and even has some to finish at home.

Uncle Justin popped in for a visit.  It was very nice of him considering he was in the area for work and left a co-worker in the truck while he came in to visit.

Aunt Nicole came this afternoon with a coloring project & a teddy bear with a balloon in tow.  She spent quite a bit of time with us and even joined us in the playroom for a little while.

We made it to the playroom twice this afternoon.  She's decided that she'd like to be a PMCH nurse when she grows up and now that she knows all the in's and out's, she put her skills to good use on her patient Elsa.  The good news is that she will have two ears so she can actually use a stethoscope ;).

We can't walk out of our room without stopping to shoot one of the many fart guns.  So gross.  The sign behind her says, "If you fart loudly in public, just yell "Jet Power" and start walking faster" and she laughs about it every single time.

While we were in the playroom they called a Code Blue over the intercom.  That will make your heart sink instantly, even more so when they call the room number across the hall from you.  We decided to stay in the playroom for a little while longer.  We were happy to hear that it was a positive ending.  We later found out that it was our nurses who were first on the scene and they were pretty shook up.  I have a new found respect for nurses.  Every nurse we get we think is our favorite, we've decided we've just been lucky to get all of the best ones!

We ran into Lori Jenson in the hallway again and had a great chat with her.  She shared some very inspiring and personal stories with us.  She's lost 2 children in this very hospital and she spends much time here with another.  We agreed that we hate the statement "God doesn't give us more than we can handle" because he absolutely does give us more than we can handle, he helps us to handle what we are given.

We came back to our room as they were transferring our sweet little neighbor very humbled & extremely grateful.  Today was an eye opener of how truly blessed we are.  There are miracles right before our eyes if we just recognize them.  We've heard Life Flight come and go at least 7 times and every time I say a little prayer for the little one & their families.  Tonight our hearts are full.

She has been complaining about her IV and after she was given some antibiotics she showed signs of a bad IV so they had to remove it which meant that she would need a new one.  She was scared so they came to the rescue with another prize, a doctor's kit this time.  They know the way to a girls heart.  She's in for a rude awakening when life goes back to normal and she doesn't get amazing prizes for everything she does.

We knew she was feeling a lot better tonight when we had this conversation:
Kambri: Can you have the nurse unhook me?
Me: where are you going?
Kambri: I'm going to dance

...and dance she did.  Her giant Olaf balloon was her partner of choice.

Dr. Muntz popped in and confirmed that TOMORROW is the big day!  We get to go home.  They will remove her drains in the morning and as long as it doesn't get puffy we can be on our way.

THANK YOU for the many prayers that have been given on our behalf.  We feel them and are extremely grateful.
